Sunday Funday: Light Up The Night & NNO

It’s Sunday.  And I’m actually posting something for once.  Crazy, right?!

I had initially made this an Inspiration Monday post {you remember what those are, right?! ;]}, however, I found something else to make for an IM post.  Thus, this is getting it’s own.

I don’t know how many of you have ever heard of National Night Out, but it’s coming around in two days.

National Night Out

When I initially heard about it, I thought it was a night to go out and party {yay for vodka!}, but then I found out it was on the first Tuesday of August.  I don’t really drink during the week.  It’s just a thing I have, so I thought, “Man, I’m going to miss out. Boo.”  When we our event coordinator contacted us to participate in that year’s NNO, I felt like such an idiot.  She explained that it was a night to spread awareness about crime/violence prevention in neighborhoods and cities.  Like a giant family-centered Neighborhood Watch party.  The local police/fire station come visit.  Sometimes it’s a potluck or it’s catered.  There are games/activities for the kids.

It’s NOT a night to play beer pong with kamikazes and stuff my face with Doritos and ranch dip.  As if that’s ever happened before.  Pshh.  Just ask my mom to tell you the story. ;]

Anyway, we said, “Of course.” And have been participating in some fashion with our community’s NNO ever since.  Our community is still relatively new, so it’s nice to see people you haven’t met before.  This year we were asked to create a dessert table that was inspired by the night’s theme – Light Up The Night.

I thought I’d share some ideas with you so that you can plan your own NNO party or some other summer fun day.

Every party needs some kind of activity or game.  Try your hand at Hopscotch, Ring Toss, or a game of Glow-In-The-Dark Bowling.

For some sweetness, add some Neon Sour Gummy Bears, Fairy Floss {Cotton Candy}, Neon Sour Gummy Worms, Nerds, or Shimmer Pink Sixlets to your dessert table!

For that extra glow, here’s a tutorial for Glow-In-The-Dark Jello.  {Side note: I can’t believe I’m putting Jello on this blog. It’s one of my worst nightmares. Ask anyone. :/}

Check out this awesome Neon Glow-In-The-Dark birthday party from Kara’s Party Ideas.  The site is amazing and you can find so many more ideas and inspiration all over.  Make sure you take a look at her shop too – loads of cute stuff for your next event!

Lastly, here’s a cute Whipperberry printable to include with your glowsticks/glow bracelets & necklaces/sparklers.

Take a gander to KML Events’ Glow-In-The-Dark Pinterest board for more ideas!  For more information about National Night Out, visit their website.  Also, check your city’s/community’s website for information about their special NNO events.
